History of Castle Farms Wedding

Castle Farms is a historic wedding venue located in Charlevoix, Michigan. The castle that now serves as the centerpiece of the venue was originally built in 1918 as a dairy barn for the Chicago-based Sears Roebuck Company. The company purchased the property, which was then known as the Loeb Farm, in 1900.

In 1918, the Sears Roebuck Company decided to transform the dairy barn into a model dairy farm. They hired architect Charles A. Platt to design the renovation, which included adding towers, balconies, and a grand entrance.

The foundation operated as a model dairy farm and educational center for many years, and the building was considered one of the most impressive structures of its kind in the country. However, in the 1960s, the foundation ceased operations, and the building fell into disrepair.

In 1969, a local entrepreneur named John VanHaver purchased the property with the intention of converting it into a museum. He spent years renovating the building and turning it into the Castle Museum, which opened to the public in 1971.

In the years that followed, VanHaver continued to expand the property, adding gardens, a petting zoo, and a model railroad display. He also started renting out the property for events, including weddings.
